The HTI is a recognised course provider for the British Society of Hypnotherapists (Est 1950), the oldest Hypnotherapy Professional Organisation in the UK. 

Our in-depth training programme, comprising Courses 1-4, aims to teach ALL of our pupils to the highest standards, aiding them to become competent professionals and to deliver the highest standards of service effectively and safely to their clients.

In the hypnotherapy profession word of mouth referrals play a very large part in building a successful career. Therefore we provide our trainees with the highest standards of hypnosis training to help them develop their clincal practice and its financial base more quickly. The high standard of our trainees furthers a better public understanding of clinical hypnotherapy as an effective therapy for a wide range of problems, mental, physical and emotional.

Each trainee who graduates from our career training programme receives several accreditations and qualifies for membership of well-respected national and international professional hypnotherapy organisations with meaningful training standards.  The Institute provides hypnosis training courses at several levels from foundation to intermediate and advanced levels and offers a variety of postgraduate support programmes along with training in marketing and building a hypnotherapy practice.  The Institute teaches to high educational standards while being very practical and dynamic in teaching the skills of clinical hypnosis. It offers a range of courses in a intensive, accelerated format for the serious student, which is by far the most effective way to learn the skills of hypnotherapy.

The HTI professional training includes an in-depth training in  "Transforming Therapy", the advanced system of analytical hypnotherapy developed by the renowned hypnotherapist, the late Gil Boyne, with whom the Institute has closely worked for several years.

Content of our courses includes the most modern, scientifically-validated information and the best evidence-based methods from research and clinical practice in the long history of clinical hypnosis.  All of our courses can be taken separately depending on prior experience.  The courses are based on over 20 years experience of training hypnotherapists.  Our trainers teach from genuinely extensive experience of clinical work with clients in addition to long experience in training hypnotherapists.  Our principal instructor, Dr. John Butler, has trained many hypnotherapists and hypnotherapy instructors over the last 20 years.  Our trainers are currently practicing hypnotherapists who are passionate in their commitment to clinical work.  The courses teach the power of classical hypnosis and the in-depth understanding of emotional problems through analytical hypnotherapy.  The courses avoid superficial approaches to therapy which are ineffective in dealing with deep personal issues.  Simplistic approaches to hypnotherapy are common in trainings which teach hypnotherapy as a combinatory system mixed together with other psychological therapy systems and in the process fail to teach hypnotherapy effectively. 

Our in-depth approach to hypnotherapy means comprehensively addressing the deepest emotional roots of problems in addition to cognitive and rational approaches to these issues.  Hypnotherapy has a vast theoretical and practical skills base as well as being the basis from which the profession of psychotherapy developed.  It therefore requires serious and ethical training for its mastery which cannot be acquired from superficial or brief trainings.  If considering a future in hypnotherapy practice, it is important that you learn from individuals with proven hypnosis skills and in a course that has genuine standards regarding duration and quality of face to face tuition based on demonstrably high levels of practical experience and proven effectiveness among teaching staff.  Learning very inadequate or bad technique can mean that considerable retraining is necessary to acquire effective skills. 

It is advisable not to make decisions about courses solely on the basis of recommendations from one of the many competing “umbrella” or accrediting bodies as there is no overall regulatory structure govering the field of hypnotherapy only voluntary organisations that a graduate of most schools of hypnotherapy can join as an individual member.  HTI staff have been highly involved over many years in the development of various standards of education and competence including NVQ and Occupational Standards but these are accepted by the Institute as defining a very basic level of practitioner achievement that do not yet reflect the competence level of an advanced hypnotherapy practitioner.  It is important to be aware that accreditations can be awarded to training courses providing a very limited skills base and with very basic level educational standards that can have little relevance to practical effectiveness in hypnotherapy.   The Institute is an independent teaching body with genuinely external accreditations and is not part of a large franchise system with standards that may be heavily influenced by commercial concerns. 

Practices are often marketed as "hypnosis" that are very superficial and may only consist of simple relaxation techniques, visualisation and elementary suggestion therapy, a few of the most basic methods used in hypnotherapy.  Such approaches are a very inferior approach to hypnotherapy and lack the power of genuine clinical hypnosis.  In-depth hypnosis, in contrast, is the highly effective activation and direction of subconscious power for specific purposes and involves an understanding of the human mind and its potential at very deep levels. 

It is important to know that there are many differences in the understanding and practice of hypnosis between schools and teachers and prospective students need to study carefully the information about training courses they receive before committing to a course.  Superficial similarity in words may mask profound differences in practice.  Numerous research studies have found that there are great differences in the results obtained by different therapists ranging from minimal or even negative effects to major benefits for the majority of their clients.  Many studies have also shown that different trainers can produce very different results with trainees with low-functioning trainers tending to produce very low-functioning students and high-functioning trainers tending to produce high-functioning graduates.

The Institute is the only school in the UK licensed to teach the advanced system of analytical hypnotherapy created by Gil Boyne, one of the most celebrated pioneers and practitioners of hypnotherapy in a career of over 50 years.  The renowned hypnotherapist, Gil Boyne, creator of Transforming Therapy, taught at the Hypnotherapy Training Institute of Britain for several years prior to his passing in May 2010.  Gil Boyne served in the capacity of a Director of Postgraduate Training in Analytical Hypnotherapy at the HTI.
