American Council of Hypnotist Examiners
In 1973, the Hypnotist Examining Council was created in the United States as a non-profit organization involved in the self-regulation of individuals practicing hypnotherapy professionally. Appropriate standards of education, training and examination were promoted and a code of ethics and standards of practice were created. Shortly afterwards, Gil Boyne was elected President of the Council.
The American Council of Hypnotist Examiners (ACHE), was founded in 1980 and rapidly grew to represent many practicing hypnotherapists in the USA. The ACHE established ethical standards, requirements for registration based on appropriate standards of education and training and examination procedures, and implemented the process of certification of professional hypnotherapists. Currently, certification as a Clinical Hypnotherapist requires that an individual has received a minimum of two hundred (200) hours of instruction from an ACHE approved hypnotherapy school. The student must also pass the written and practical examination overseen by the ACHE.
