Dr. John Butler, the principal instructor of the Institute has made more than 20 television appearances as an expert in hypnosis with many programmes focussed on his use of hypnotherapy in medical clinical settings including the use of hypnosis as an anaesthetic and for other benefits in invasive surgeries. This clinical work was first filmed over 11 years ago and since then has been reported many times in the media, including a major BBC television series, "Mysteries", with Carol Vorderman in 1997 and a live broadcast on Channel 4's digital channel, More4, with John Butler using hypnosis as a sole anaesthetic while surgery was performed on a patient in April 2006. Some of his work has been featured in “Time” magazine and “Science” magazine.
